Arizona FCCLA is proud to offer 13 Proficiency Events at the 2021 State Leadership Conference. Proficiency Events are hands-on events used for members to demonstrate the knowledge they have gained through their Family and Consumer Sciences class. This events are encouraged for members that may not want to compete in a STAR Event, but still want to gain the same exposure to the competitive events environment. These events are recognized as first, second and third per level (Level 1 - 3) and do not advance to the National Leadership Conference.
Proficiency Events Guide
Art of Storytelling
The Art of Storytelling event is an individual event that recognizes member in an Early Childhood Education program for their ability to demonstrate storytelling techniques for an early learning environment. Presentation skills are the main source of evaluation for this event.
Cake Decorating is an individual event that recognizes participants who demonstrate their creativity in creating an original cake focused on a theme.
Chicken Fabrication is an individual event that showcases the best of participant's knife skills. Participants will safely fabricate a chicken into eight pieces, meeting industry standards, while demonstrating proper safety and sanitation procedures.
Cupcake Decorating is an individual event that recognizes participants who demonstrate their creativity in creating an original cupcake focused on a theme. The theme for the 2021 State Leadership Conference will be published in the Proficiency Events Guide.
Fashion Production is an individual event that showcases student’s knowledge and ability to demonstrate
safety, creativity, and garment construction with provided items.
Fashion Sketch is an individual event that recognizes members for their ability to design and sketch a croquis based upon a provided design scenario.
Front of the House
Front of the House is an individual event that provides participants with the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to use the knowledge and skills gained related to working in a front of the house position.
Impromptu Speaking is an individual event that recognizes participants for their ability to address a topic relating to FCCLA and Family and Consumer Sciences without prior preparation.
Interior Design Sketch
Interior Design Sketch is an individual event that recognizes members for their ability to problem solve, design, and sketch an interior design space using the provided interior design scenario.
Literacy Connection: Story Stretching
Literacy Connection: Story Stretching is an individual event that recognizes members’ ability to plan, design and demonstrate a story stretching activity for either an individual child or a small group of children. The member will be evaluated on the story book selection, the association to subject areas and the connection to the Arizona Early Learning Standards, as well as the age and developmentally appropriateness of the activity.
Mise en Place Challenge
Mise en Place Challenge is an individual event that will showcase the best of participant’s fundamental skills and technique. Participants will produce all of the required components in the allowed time while meeting industry standards and demonstration proper safety and sanitation procedures.
Mystery Basket is an individual event that allows students to demonstrate safety and sanitation, creative food preparation, fabrication and garnishment with provided items.
Toys that Teach
Toys that Teach is an individual event that recognizes members for their ability to design, build and demonstrate an original homemade toy which provides learning and play for either an individual child or a small group of children. The toy is to be constructed of common, everyday household items. It must meet safety guidelines and be easy to carry and use.
